Video

Last night, I filmed the video using my canon digital camera, and have tried to upload it to blogger several times, but keep getting a notification telling me it has failed. I am currently trying to find an alternate way to upload it.

I have uploaded the video to youtube to make it accessible.

We have uploaded the video so it can now be found on the homepage of our website ...

Photos and Show Ideas #2

The second show I am going to create for 21TV, is a beauty related one. I have chosen to call it 'Make Me Up'.

Ruth and I had already decided that beauty was going to be one of the main genres of programme for 21TV, as it is an area of which most young ladies are interested in.

Inspired by the likes of Gok Wan, 10 years Younger and the youtube beauty craze, I have come up with 'Make Me Up'.

This programme will have a celebrity make-up artist host, who will give girls from our target audience age group dramatic, yet natural make-overs, whilst giving out professional tips and tricks. As the teenage/young adult years can be a problematic time for females' skin, this show is aimed to help boost confidence and allow viewers to see first hand the best ways to get that flawless face.

Although there are certain people on youtube that make videos similar to idea, there is nothing on the television quite like this show, which is why I thought it would be something new for 21TV to introduce.

Not only will there be make-overs, but helpful bits of information for viewers such as; which colour eyeshadow is best suited to your eye colour and how to contour and highlight correctly. This could increase the viewing figures, as it would also attract viewers outside of the target age group.

I got my mum to take a couple of photographs using my digital camera of myself and my friend for the image that will be used on the website to promote the show. Out of the images taken, these three were the ones I felt were most suitable.

In the end I chose the image of the host and a show participant with a plain background and holding make-up products. This allows the viewers to see clearly what the show is about, and who the celebrity host/make-up artist is.

To create this image, I cropped the photograph to contain just the main focus; the host of the show and the participant, holding makeup products. I added a thin border and the title of the show 'Make Me Up' at the top of the image. For this show I have used more of a baby-pink to represent the theme of the programme and that it is one of the channels more 'girly' shows.

I have chosen to use this girly, floral font as previously mentioned, it is one of the more 'girly' shows, and I felt this font reinforced this to the audience.

Video Ideas

Whilst Ruth is working on creating the FAQ page, I am undertaking the task of making the video to go on 21TV's homepage.

After thinking about several different options, I have chosen to have a presenter onscreen, with a simple background, speaking about the channel launch. My friend Phoebe kindly agreed to play the role of the presenter, and we are going to meet on Thursday night to film.

I have written a script for her to follow, and have picked out an outfit for her to wear, which will both be relatable to our target audience. Phoebe is 21, so is also within the same age group as the audience will be.

Script:

"Hi! You're watching 21TV, the hottest new girls-only channel to hit your screen.

Keep up to date with the latest fashion, beauty, health and celebrity gossip!

The channel launch will hit your screens on Friday 29th March at 9pm, so make no party plans, or you will miss out big time.

The launch night will bring you big names such as Olly Murs, who will be performing live, and Lisa Eldridge who will be giving essential weekend and make-up tips.

Two of our hottest new shows will be premiering; Fashionista, presented by our very own Will Peplum, who will ensure your 2013 spring/summer wardrobe is as hot as can be, and Ayre You Ready? our brand new reality show starring four of the Isle of Man's wildest party animals!

I am currently in Will's wardrobe, so let's take a sneaky peak .. shh don't tell him!"

To get inspiration for this video, I watched the MTV channels on the television, as the presenters and their way of speaking and getting information across to the audience is similar to the sort of thing I had in mind for our television channel. The presenter is usually a young woman, wearing fashionable clothing, with a bubbly, chatty manner.
I tried to encapsulate this with Phoebe, and make her as relatable as possible to our target audience to draw them in and encourage them to watch our channel.

Photos and Show Ideas #1

Unfortunately, I have not been able to arrange a time for the people I have chosen to be the 'cast members' for Ayre You Ready?, so I have instead thought about other show ideas and images I could take to advertise them on our website.

One of the ideas I came up with was a documentary on the danger of drugs. The reason I chose this for a show our channel would feature, is that drugs are an ever increasing problem amongst young people and young adults, and the more awareness made about them, the better. Our research showed that our target audience were interested in documentaries, so I felt this would be a good choice of show to include.

As I work in a pharmacy, I was easily able to access drugs (prescription drugs), to take photographs of. I spoke to my boss and he allowed me to use out of date capsules and some returned movicol (powder laxative), along with various other props to use for the images. I displayed them on the worktop in the dispensary, and took enough pictures to have a good variety.

Although I took over 80 photos, I have only uploaded and edited the ones I thought were best, and the ones I felt would be most likely to be put on the website.

I took the photos using my Canon camera, then uploaded them on to my computer. I regularly use the phone app 'instagram' to edit photos I have taken for personal interests, and find it very effective. I chose to use this method of editing for my images, and transferred the images from the laptop to my phone. I am very pleased with how they have turned out, and think they would make a good advertisement for a drugs documentary.

I have chosen to use image 2 for the final image to be used on the website's homepage. Using Microsoft Powerpoint, I added the words 'The Dark Side of Drugs', which will be the title of the documentary. I feel the white text against the dark background is a good contrast, and allows the title to stand out. Being at the top, where there is nothing of importance, it does not draw attention away from the main content of the image; the drugs.

Programme Ideas

Whilst we were carrying out our research, we briefly looked at the types of shows our tv channel would include. As we need to create our own original ideas for 21TV, Ruth and I have each looked at shows that would be suited to our channel, and put our own twist on them, using the idea to create our own.

Our researched showed us that the most popular category of programme is reality tv. Geordie Shore is a good example of the type of popular reality show young adults like to watch, including most of my friends, and their friends! Based on this, I am going to use Geordie Shore as the inspiration for the programme I am going to create.

Geordie Shore is a reality tv show series, which is the British adaption of the American show Jersey Shore. It is broadcast on MTV, and was first shown on British television in May 2011.

So far there have been 5 series, in which the cameras follow the lives of the cast, who all live together in a house for the purpose of the show. All of the cast are young adults, with their ages ranging from 20 - 26. There are both male and female cast. The purpose of the show is for none other than entertainment reasons, which is one of the reasons it is so popular. It is the type of programme you don't have to think about, you can just watch, enjoy and laugh.

It is set in Newcastle, with all the cast being 'Geordie'.

21TV Show Idea

As Geordie Shore is based on Jersey Shore, there are two of the same thing already being broadcast. This means there is no gap in the market for another show which is the same. To put a twist on it, and draw in viewers, I am going to create a programme with the same sort of principle, but with female housemates only. Being a female channel, this should suit well to our audience.

Seeing as we live on the Isle of Man, I am going to create the show to be based here, like Geordie Shore is based in Newcastle, and Jersey Shore is based in New Jersey. I will not name it ***** Shore, however as both the existing shows are affiliated with MTV, and ours will be shown on 21TV, therefore will need a different name so to not impose any copyright infringement.

I have decided to keep the cast within the same sort of age group, and also keep with the idea of them living together in a house, however the show will introduce challenges and tasks for the cast, instead of the cameras simply following what they choose to do.

I have had a think about a name for the show I am going to create, and have decided on 'Ayre You Ready?' The Point of Ayre is the northernmost point of the Isle of Man. It is mainly countryside, and coast. For the show, I thought the house the cast live in could be set in the Point of Ayre, as it would provide plenty of opportunity for outdoor challenges, and would only be a taxi ride away from the main towns. 'Are you ready?' is a term often used before somebody embarks upon a task or challenge, so the name 'Ayre You Ready?', I feel is very fitting to the show.

I will be able to use friends to pose as the cast for the images to be used on the website, as most of them are female and aged 18-22.

Creating the website

Before we started to create our website, Ruth and I both looked around on the internet at various websites that allow you to create your own. Our final decision was to use 'Wix', a free site specially designed for website building. We found this to be the one most suited to our requirements, and liked the fact you are able to complete the website you're creating before publishing it to the internet.

To begin with, we chose to design our website, by deciding on which colours, templates and themes we wanted to use. Wix allows you to choose from either a blank website, allowing you to create yours totally from nothing, injecting all your own ideas and designs, or to use one of their template designs, which offer you ideas and colour schemes. We were originally going to use the blank version, but after thinking about it and discussing it with Ruth, we changed our minds and chose to use one of the templates. We both agreed on the one we thought would be best suited to '21TV', and started to adapt it to fit it's needs.

Chosen template:

One we had decided on the template we were using, we deleted all the content that was on there as examples, as we thought this would allow us to use our own ideas, and not be influenced by what was already there. It also made it a lot more easy to work with. We replaced the example menu bar with our own, choosing to have four options: home, shows, about and news.

As a high percentage of the website will be based on images and information on the shows, we are restricted as to what we can do until we have that content.
